Participating in a Fraternity has numerous benefits. Joining a Professional Engineering Fraternity magnifiesthose benefits. Participating in a Fraternity can teach you leadership, professionalism, time-management, social, teamwork and financial skills essential to being a successful engineer. In addition, you will become involved in social activities on campus along with philanthropy events in the community. You will also make life-long friends and business contacts.
How big is Theta Tau?
Theta Tau is a national Professional Engineering Fraternity with over 50,000 initiated members and chapters at over 50 Universities in 26 states and Washington D.C. Lawrence Tech's chapter has 15 members and over 120 alumni working in engineering in 7 states.
How do I join?
Fraternity Brothers rely on each other socially, professionally and academically. That is why we want to make sure that Theta Tau is right for you and that you are right for Theta Tau. In order to do this the Fraternity has established a learning period for prospective members called pledging. Pledging is an 8-to-10 week period where you learn about the Fraternity and its members and in turn, the members get to know about you. This is how you and the brothers of Theta Tau determine if you and the fraternity are a good fit.
Will I be hazed?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. Hazing is illegal and is not tolerated by Theta Tau or Lawrence Technological University. Pledging Theta Tau is not like in the movies Old School, Accepted, Van Wilder or Animal House. The purpose of pledging is to teach you about the fraternity, help you develop skills that are beneficial to a profession in engineering and for the fraternity brothers to get to know you.
